For A Season/For a Reason |
April 3, 2009 |
Many people walk thru our lives—some for a season—others for a reason. But when you and Val walked into my life you did so with amazing grace and the presence of The Lord. I cannot remember how I became a part of your prayer group; but I am glad the grace of God led me there. And it was humbling to share a small part in your difficult journey.
You will remember that I met you and Val one evening at the Cracker Barrel and as I sat down to chat with Val, she leaned over, looked me straight in the eye and with a small notebook and pencil in hand, she said: “Well now, how can I pray for you?” She was cute and funny and, obviously, enjoying herself that evening.
Eventually, the hard times began to out-number the good times, yet you stood your ground and fought for the life of your Val with faith of Biblical proportions. But it was not to be and Val slipped away. I wept over that email with it’s sad message. I just couldn’t believe she was gone.
Sharon, I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet Val. In reading the condolences, one begins to get a feel for what an extraordinary young woman Val was. I wish there was some way to ease your pain and tears. I pray that God sends a few of his angels to surround you and comfort you as you grieve for your daughter.

At Peace at Last |
April 2, 2009 |
Val touched my life in so many ways, as she did many others. She was a strong willed woman and a true fighter. God gave her many gifts and and she shared them with every person who met her. I will never in my lifetime forget Val. She taught me so much about life, love and family. Her faith in God was so strong it might have kept her on this earth a little longer to spend time with Kennedy and to complete God's plan for her. Now she is done suffering and I can almost picture her dancing and celebrating up in heaven, the true angel that she is. (And I know Val loved to dance, as she showed off at her pizza party just before discharge). May Val's spirit always be with you to comfort you. I send my prayers and condolences to all of you.
And dear Kennedy, just always remember that you are a very blessed child to be your mother's daughter, and you always will be. It was you who's picture hung above her on the ceiling and you who's face she first saw when she woke up every morning. She loves you very much.
The Lord has taken back his gift and given all of you another in return. The comfort in knowing that your precious Val is at peace at last. May God bless you now and always.
You're in my prayers.
Love,
Sara and Greg Kraus

PRAYING FOR YOU ALL |
April 1, 2009 |
Oh, Sharon and Gene, you are both in our thoughts and prayers. Kennedy will grow up to be as strong and beautiful as her mother. Our hearts are hurting for all of Val's family. You all are such witnesses of the faith you have in our LORD above. You all have clung to that from day one and I admire the strength and courage that you have shown to everyone. We love you both and will look forward to seeing you soon. We are disappointed that we will not be able to be there in person but we will be there in prayer. Know that we will continue to pray for you all. I know that you will draw comfort from knowing that Val is no longer struggling with life's battles and is in the loving arms of GOD.
We love you and will see you soon.
Your friends,
Rick & Vickie Mitchell

I Cor 15:55a O Death, WHERE IS YOUR STING??!!! |
April 1, 2009 |
I am a wheelchair preacher who was fortunate enough in the early 80’s to preach at the Exciting Hilltop Baptist Church just East of Norman. I thank God that this is not the end of the story.
The current Pastor at Hilltop is a gentleman named Larry Ice – his wife? Valerie’s Aunt Connie. In 2005, I was invited back to preach at Hilltop by Larry, and when we all went to lunch after the services, we began our more personal relationship with the Ice and Kirkpatrick families, who had all been at Hilltop when I was there in the 80’s.
I was fortunate enough to have attended the “Kennedy & Trelany” birthday party pictured in this memorial – actually got to eat some of that cake! Yum – Yum!! Then my and Sandi’s real miracle came when Gene or Sharon phoned us about Val’s initial surgery in Fargo, and subsequent transfer to Minneapolis. As God would have it, we had commitments in Minnesota, and got to stop and sing and pray for Val, though she was in a coma, and at heaven’s door then.
We anxiously anticipated and rejoiced in every miracle God brought Val through, and prayed diligently for you all, Family, through it all… we are still praying for you.
Regan, as I’ve watched this memorial, I’ve wept with you, (having lost my sister, suddenly, by heart attack, in December). But Gene and Sharon, my (mere) weeping broke into full blown bawling when God reminded me of the abnormal burden of losing a child that He is carrying you through right now. Oh! How we mourn with you!!!!!!
Family, I know your loss is great… Val was such a beautiful, loving, and caring person. But I must tell you honestly. When I got the vision of Val jumping and shouting and praising our Lord outside of her broken earthly body… I got a little jealous. We love you. God keep you – all and always.

Valerie,
Thank you for everything you taught me during your stay with us in Minnesota. You are a beautiful example of love, patience and persistance. Your unwavering faith in God humbles me. Kennedy is lucky to have a mom that is such an inspiration to everyone she came in contact with. I look forward to seeing you again. God bless your family during these difficult times. I'll be praying for you all.

May God's Grace & Comfort Be With You |

Dear Family,
Words can not express the great sorrow that we feel at your loss, but rejoice knowing that she is with the Lord Jesus and no longer in pain. She is now living out what we all believe! Her life truly touched so many people. All the sweet memories that we have of her, bring a smile to our faces. She was a beautiful, one-of-a-kind person that will never be forgotten, and will live on in our memories until we see her in Heaven some day. She truly lived up to the meaning of her name "Strength, Valiant". She fought the good fight, and she won the race! Our prayers and love are with you in the difficult days ahead. May you find comfort in knowing that she is loved. Thank you for being a true example of selfless love and caring in the way that you gave yourself fully to her care. May the Lord bless and comfort you all. Our love, Brian & Peggy
